Thank military veterans in your community by supporting a full year of

SHAKESPEARE WITH VETERANS!

Shakespeare with Veterans is a program of Kentucky Shakespeare, offered free of charge to veterans in the Louisville area.

Kentucky Shakespeare is not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization. We seek support once a year to fund this work, and we invite you to contribute today!

"This group is the only place I can really let my guard down. I feel so much more human after being here."    -US Army veteran of cold war era

It has been a banner year for Shakespeare with Veterans – we received our first NEA Creative Communities grant, and we’re developing a brand-new program with the Robley Rex VA Hospital. The word is getting out about this work, and we’re energized every week as our group gets stronger.

However! We can’t do it without you. We’ve just learned that, unfortunately, we didn’t receive the NEA grant for this upcoming season, and we also didn’t receive our regular annual support from a local foundation. That means that our community supporters are more important than ever.

"This group has helped me gain control over what my emotions do. It’s helped me relate to civilians better.”         -US Navy veteran, Vietnam

Shakespeare with Veterans is facilitated by Kentucky Shakespeare’s Associate Artistic Director Amy Attaway. We meet once a week and offer a safe and supportive space for veterans to talk (as little or as much as they wish) about their own experiences in the service as we explore Shakespeare’s text. The group supports each other and builds a unit outside the military, focusing on the new mission of performing Shakespeare.

We use public performances to help connect the U.S. military to U.S. civilians, promoting understanding and empathy.

“While we're here we don't feel like we're broken. We know these are normal reactions to experiences we've had." - Indiana Army Reserves soldier
