WAVE TV Meteorologist Brian Goode shares his personal story to help bring awareness to mental health

Most know by now about my personal struggles with depression that started in my youth, with some ups and downs over the years. The battle did intensify more in recent years, even before the pandemic. I am an introvert at heart which doesn't help, but I do like social settings...in doses. But just when I feel like I am doing better, I get a setback.  Like sitting in a doctor's office filling out the "checklists" we always have to fill out. When I get to the questions about 'feeling down' or thoughts of 'hurting myself'... I pause... look around to see if anyone is watching me, then I answer them. Not always truthfully.

I started to "come clean" with these struggles on New Years' Eve 2018 on social media. I felt it was the best time for reflection and for hope. And the response from YOU was the hope I was seeking.  The hope that I wasn't alone.

Then COVID-19 hit. The thoughts all came back but not just for me, but for many out there. The forced isolation allowed for refection time that can easily expose any cracks in your emotional walls that many didn't know existed.

We are learning now more than ever of the tools to reach out to each other that there are people out there to help...some not even knowing they do.

I am proud to highlight Bridgehaven Mental Service once again this year as my sponsor as they are the one constant in a world that seems full of chaos.

Here is a special note from Bridgehaven I would appreciate if you took the chance to read:
