Libraries are not a luxury, but they are essential to the heart of a strong city.

The Library Foundation believes in the power of a strong library to change a life, a neighborhood, a city. Since our founding in 1980, thousands of library-loving neighbors have joined hands across the city to help raise over $45 million dollars in support of the Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL).

But our work is not done.

As a critical part of Louisville's social infrastructure, LFPL works to address some of the city's most challenging issues. They do this despite public funding deficits that leave our public library's annual budget $10 million behind the national average for cities our size. And while our library is brimming with demand, funding constraints continue to impact resources and staffing. This means shortened library hours at many branches, and reduced programming offerings. Because our city's collection is smaller than 80% of other cities our size, patrons often wait up to 25 weeks for popular titles.

This is why the Library Foundation is also committed to leading advocacy efforts to secure adequate public dollars to sustain and expand our library system. But we need your help to do it.

Please join us as we build a stronger library for a stronger Louisville.
