"Just for Today"—a phrase that resonates deeply with us all. This powerful message from the Big Book, echoed at the end of the Serenity Prayer, is so often spoken that we might forget its true impact. Today, as we fundraise for Give For Good 2024, we are aiming to remind everyone of its significance.
Addiction is a devastating disease that affects individuals from all walks of life. It tears families and communities apart, leaving behind hopelessness, fear, and uncertainty. The Healing Place knows that in the midst of chaos, there is still hope.
When a person walks in off the streets into detox at The Healing Place, they find a warm bed, a hot meal, clean clothes, and a friendly face. Our services are provided at no cost to the client, which we’re able to do thanks to the generosity of people like you. 90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly into program services.
Our goal this year is to raise $55,000 during Give for Good Louisville. By helping us reach this goal, you are changing the life of someone who is at risk of losing theirs. You are helping someone become the sober mother, father, son, daughter, sister, brother, friend, and employee they are meant to be.
Last year, nearly 11,000 people spent at least one night in a bed at The Healing Place. So far this year, more than 5,800 individuals have come through our doors seeking help for addiction. In a time when overdose deaths in Kentucky are at record highs and alcohol-related deaths are up 21%, The Healing Place is needed now more than ever.
We use a peer-driven social model of recovery to address the behavior that drives the addiction. Our program is one that encourages responsibility, accountability, and compassion. At The Healing Place, clients get the gift of time - time to learn, time to grow, and time to build a support system.
The Healing Place provides a number of services to best fit the client's needs and give them the best chance in long-term recovery. This includes detox services, a long-term residential recovery program, outpatient services with sober housing, transitional housing, overnight shelter, and specialized services for homeless and addicted veterans.
Your gift today will help individuals like Christy, who recently completed our long-term recovery program and now works as a peer mentor, helping those who are new in recovery.
My sobriety date is October 5, 2021. I had previously been court-ordered to The Healing Place, but left. I came back this last time because I was losing my mind and losing the trust of my family and friends. I was finally desperate enough to let go and start listening to people.
The Healing Place taught me to be humble and to stop fighting myself. The love and support from the staff and alumni here is incredible. They saved my life and made me want to stay and do the same for another woman.
Since coming to The Healing Place last fall, I have had some pretty severe losses. I don't believe I would have stayed sober through those tough times had it not been for The Healing Place. It changed my life and I am truly grateful.
