Who are we? LRD!

Louisville Roller Derby is Louisville’s first and only Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby league. We are a diverse league coming together from Louisville and Southern Indiana to pursue excellence through competition and athleticism. We work together to passionately promote roller derby and foster the spirit of the sport while providing a safe space for girls, women and gender expansive individuals in the Louisville community.

Our History

Established as an LLC in 2005, Louisville Roller Derby (formally Derby City Roller Girls) was owned and operated by individuals who love to skate. LRD started as a small group of passionate locals with like-minded determination and dreams of bringing the sport and art of roller derby to the Louisville community. In 2009, Louisville Roller Derby was honored to acquire status as an official member of WFTDA, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.

LRD has continued to grow over the years as a league to better align with creating a safe space and the core values of inclusivity that are held by the group. In 2018, the move was made from an LLC to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This was followed by the most recent growth in 2022 with the Rebrand Launch, changing the league's name from Derby City Roller Girls to Louisville Roller Derby and revealing a new logo, retiring the previous pin up design to a sleek lightning bolt to pay homage to the original imagery of the league.

Why support LRD?

LRD is a diverse member owned and operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Charitable contributions and volunteerism are the foundations through which our league succeeds in the community and helps us provide marketable sports entertainment to the great Louisville Metro area.

Some reasons to donate include:

  • Youth development:  Louisville Roller Derby has a junior program that engages young people in physical activity, teaches them valuable life skills, and fosters teamwork and leadership. By donating, you can contribute to the development and growth of young athletes.
  • Maintaining facilities and equipment: Like any sports organization, the Louisville Roller Derby requires funds to maintain their facilities, purchase equipment, and cover operational costs. Your donation can help ensure that the league has the necessary resources to provide a safe and engaging environment for its participants.
  • Promote a unique sport: Roller derby is a fast-paced and exciting sport that provides entertainment for both participants and spectators. Donating to the Louisville Roller Derby helps promote and sustain this unique sport, allowing more people to experience the thrill and camaraderie it offers.
