Since 1990, LYG has stood as a beacon of acceptance for Kentuckiana's LGBTQIA+ youth. As the oldest youth-serving LGBTQIA+ organization in the South, we have consistently provided a lifeline to young people. Through our Junior Group (ages 5-12), Teen Group (ages 13-19), Trans and Non-Binary Group(11-19), LYG Rising (18-24), Youth Leadership Council (ages 17-24) and our Melanin Magic Group (ages 13-19) for youth of the global majority. We offer a safe haven where they can be their true selves—free from judgment, fear, and isolation.

For many of these young individuals, LYG meetings are the only place where they can find comfort and safety amid the challenges they face daily. These challenges include navigating difficult school environments, enduring bullying, or protecting their true identities in the face of unsupportive adults..

We are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring that every program and event we offer is completely FREE. No young person should ever be denied a safe, affirming community due to economic barriers.

Our Youth-Adult partnership model empowers the youth themselves to steer the direction of LYG. They lead and shape the decisions that impact their lives and the lives of their peers. From Pride events and Prom to Empowerment Camp and our New Year’s Eve Lock-In, LYG provides these experiences at no cost.  LYG provides access to a very active Discord communication board, and lots of resources available at our location, including the "Beyond Labels" Resources Closet and the largest LGBTQ+ Lending Library in KY.

In 2023, our Youth Leadership Council took a stand against the harmful and discriminatory law, KY SB150, which has had devastating effects on our community. LYG is committed to amplifying youth voices, and in that spirit, we launched a series of impactful workshops and events for our Kentucky Gender-Sexuality Alliance (KY GSA). This initiative culminated in the Rainbow Revolution, highlighted by our in-person KY GSA Summit on October 5th.

LYG's dedicated staff and adult mentors are always here—ready to listen, support, and help each young person find their path forward. We craft our activities not just to entertain but to enrich, inspire, and broaden horizons. Together, we create a community where every young person can thrive, knowing they are valued and loved.
