Russell: A Place of Promise

Russell: A Place of Promise is a justice-based organization that invests in the people and places that make the Russell neighborhood special. Our vision of people-first investment includes building partnerships with residents that lead to shared decision-making about strategies to build Black wealth in Russell, and to invest in the neighborhood without displacing residents. In 2024, we will launch into a resident-led community-based organization that includes a community land trust.

This year, your support will ensure our long-term success by establishing a fund that will ensure the new organization can carry out programs, events, community projects, art and storytelling for years to come. An investment in RPOP means you're helping to repair homes so Russell's elders have an asset to pass to a future generation and keep property in the family, and to create more permanently affordable owner-occupied housing in the neighborhood to create a new legacy for Black families. It means you're supporting Black business owners as they strengthen and grow, providing not just wealth, but models for young people interested in entrepreneurship. It means you believe in the power of art, storytelling and community events to preserve and celebrate the culture, history and narrative of Russell. And it means you stand together with Russell residents who are growing in their power and voice to design the future of their neighborhood.
