Our Mission: Empowering through Access

At the Louisville Asset Building Coalition (LABC), our mission is to build a brighter, more financially secure future for families across our community. We do this by providing free, trusted financial services and education — especially for low to moderate-income households who need it most.

What We Do & Why It Matters

Every tax season, tens of thousands of families miss out on life-changing tax credits — simply because they can't afford expert help or don’t know what's available to them. At LABC, we make sure that never happens in Louisville.

Through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and youth financial education workshops, we connect our neighbors to the resources they need to move from surviving to thriving.

✅ Free Tax Prep with Real Impact

Since 2001, our VITA program has helped over 80,000 families claim more than $34 million in Earned Income Tax Credits — dollars that directly combat poverty and help pay for food, housing, childcare, and education.

Each year, from January through April, we run multiple VITA sites across Jefferson County — open seven days a week in many cases — to ensure that no family is left behind. Our goal? To have a tax site within one mile of 90% of all Louisville zip codes where the median income is under $50,000.

✅ Financial Education for the Next Generation

We’re also investing in our youth. Our Financial Savvy classes teach essential life skills like budgeting, choosing a bank, and understanding taxes — equipping young people ages 12–18 with the tools they need to make smart money choices early in life.
